Prototype Phase
81 Gardens initiative phase 0
Prototype phase
The initial prototype phase will consist of building two petals, one housing petal and one grow petal.
The housing petal all together should cost roughly 15k, the grow petal closer to 25k.
Housing Petal
The housing petal design is meant to have an utilitarian modern look and feel.
Built out of 40ft HC shipping containers they will be easier and quicker to build than traditional homes. (2 people, approx. 1 month)
A shower, toilet, and sink in the bathroom, all designed to run on solar electric power and reclaimed water as well as hook up to city utilities.
A Murphy bed with hidden storage, a large window, a mini kitchen, seating and eating/relaxing space for two, and various hidden storage areas make up the main room.
There's a small storage room, where batteries, power inverter, various hardware controllers for the home utilities, as well as coats and shoes, will be stored for easy access.
Finally there is an 8x8x8ft cube which is meant to be customized to the occupants needs or desires.
For example: a home office, a craft room, a small bedroom, a game room, a workout room, or whatever else the person who will be living there wants, it could even be left as an empty space to be filled later.
Total cost not including labor (me and volunteers to start) 15-20k depending on the location the Petal is being built.
Grow Petal
The Grow Petal is designed around aeroponic grow methods, able to grow approximately one acres worth of greens (lettuce, spinach, kale) to sell or consume within 60 days of being built and producing another acre worth every 30 to 40 days from then on.
Aeroponics use 90% less water than traditional grow methods, and grow produce at a significantly faster rate. The whole system will be indoors using high efficiency LEDs, pumps, and temperature controllers, and should require less than 4 hours of work/upkeep a day. No pesticides required because it's indoors, so no bugs.
To start the nutrients for the produce being grown would be purchased and added to the water supply, however eventually I would like to see a blend of aquaponics and aeroponics so that the fish can provide the nutrients for the plants and the plants can provide filtering for the water for the fish.
The cost not including labor (me and volunteers to start) 25-30k depending on location the Petal is being built.
